REDUCTION OF CABLE RATES ASKED FOR.

The Chamber of Commerce is askingfthe Eastern and Pacific Cable Companies to reduce the cable rate owing to the extra cost of transmitting plain language,/ Both hoards are considering the matter. The Eastern cable is already overloaded and is unlikely to obtain a further increase of traffic by reducing the rates. The manager states that Australia is at present better served than any country. The delay on the China route is much greater. (Received 10.25 n.m.)
