OFFICERS SUFFER SEVERELY DURING THE RETREAT.

Captured German officers state that nearly all the companies of the Prussian Guards and the tenth army corps have been reduced from 250 to 70. The first battalion of the Guards is commanded by volunteers, because aU the officers of the Guards during the retreat abandoned it. Of the general, colonel,' 1 eight officers and 800 men in another Guards regiment, only five officers out of 60 remain. The first battalion lost all its officers.

The Germans are showing the greatest enmity to British prisoners. Individual soldiers declare that the British should be shot in all cases.
