At the reception tendered to tho English footballers, Clifford, manager of the team, referring to the defeat at Sydney, said the executive had not displayed a generous spirit in playing a thoroubhly representative team against tho Englishmen, who had only been ashore for four days after a six weeks’ trip. They could not he expected to show their true form under such’ circumstances, but would give a better account of themselves next Saturday.
