The Times, in a leader on the honours list, says: It is calculated io encourage men in all sorts of conditions by the knowledge that their labours will be appreciated and recommended by their Sovereign. The grant of an earldom to Lord Kitchener is a reward for public services which will live for all time in the history of the Empire."
