AN ANSWER TO “REFORM. *’ (Special to the Post.) Aria, April 27. At Piopio (15 miles south of Te Kuiti) on Saturday night, notwithstanding the torrential rain in the afternoon, the hall was crowded with settlers and residents of the district, some of whom had come miles to head the addresses from Messrs Witty, Smith, and Jennings. The speakers vigorously defended the policy of the Liberal Party and its administration during the past 20 years’ ' Vs Mr Jennings quoted offioia] figures showing that during the nine years he represented the Egmont and Tanmanmui electorates over 16,000 seiec tors took up land in the electorates, the total average being over 4,000,000 acres. lie claimed that as a com plete answer to Reform advocates that the Liberal Party have not open ed t:p the country for settlement. At the conclusion of the addresses a vote of thanks and confidence in Sir Joseph Ward as Leader o* the Liberal Party, was carried with cheers, there being few dissentients. A largely-attended banquet concluded the proceedings.
