COMPULSORY TRAINING.

SOCIETY OF FRIENDS OBJECT.

I By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 10.35 a.m.) London, April 2.

A deputation from the Society of Friends, headed by Sir John Barlow, in a private interview, urged the Hon. Mr Munro-Fergusson (Governor-Cen-oral designate of Australia), to support the return to the principle of voluntary military training in Australia.

The speakers quoted Mr Denman's recent remark that supposing universal training became unpopular in Australia it would be a law very difficult to administer.

The deputation contended that the conditions referred to by Mr Henman were already in existence and quoted statistics of the prosecutions.
