COST OF KEEPING IT CLEAN.

The town clerk .reported to the council that the cost of cleaning Sydney had risen from £38,659 in 1905 to £100,634 in 1913. The mileage of the streets has increased only from 113 to 134. Increases in wages were largely responsible.
An alderman described' the statement as a staggerer.- 1
