A monument to Scott's memory, in the form of a polar explorer's cairn, has been inaugurated at Lautaret, a pass in the Alps, where Scott, in 1908, experimented with motor sledges. The monument is due to Charcot's initiative. The Minister for Marine attended the ceremony. THE HAUER MEDAL. Vienna, February 6. The Geographical Society has conferred a posthumous award, the Hauer medal (the Society's highest distinction), on Scott. TABLET IN ST. PAUL'S. Times—Sydney Sun Special Cables London, February 5.
Space has been allotted in St. Paul's Cathedral for a memorial tablet to Captain Scott. A group of statuary to cost £7500 will also be placed in either one of the big parks or Greenwich Hospital grounds, designs for which have been invited from the leading- sculptors.
