ANEW ZEALAND MEMBER. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, January 3
Considerable local interest attaches to the .various reports which .have been received regarding the fate of tho Stofannscn's scientific expedition to the Arctic regions, owing to the fact, that the party includes Mr J). Jenness, of Lower Hutt. While feeling a good deal of uneasiness as to his brother's welfare, Mr G. A. Jenness told a reporter yesterday that he placed very little credit on the report- received. If there had been any semblance of truth in the reports, ho explained, tho family would have been advised by the Canadian Government, as the latter was under that- obligation. The,"' Government had* forwarded,Mr Jenness. renii'ttances regujarly every .month, but had not mentioned 1 anything to cans© special anxiety. Mr Jenness also explained that his • brother was not actually with Stefannsonj But that he was -a member of the southern party.
