The Rev; frank Milne, preaching at College Church, Parkviile. declared that the dictum of Mr Carnegie that the level of public entertainment was sinking was eminently true in Australia, where there was lascivious dancing and Sunday parades on the beaches by men and women in seminude condition. These were simply an abomination. Crowds flocked to boxing and ragtime—gross forms of pleasure. Material prosperity was destroying spiritual life.
