CRICKET CLUB FORMED.
ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING IN STRATFORD. An enthusiastic meeting of crickters was held at Mr E. Jackson's office last night for the purpose of reviving the Stratford Cricket • Club. Mr C Jackson was voted to the chair. Mr Jackson said lie was pleased to see so many*present and he was confident that a good new club could be" formed. The idea in calling the meetling that night was that though no 'matches might be played this season 'they could depend on having a good [season next season. Personally he would have to attend shooting matches and his brother would be called upon to go to bonding matches, but both would lie prepared to sacrifica theirsports if the cricket club wanted their services. On the motion of Mr E. Jackson itwas decided that a club to be called the Stratford Cricket Club be formed. The following officers were elected : President; Mr A. W. Budge; vice-pie sidents, Messrs .1. Masters, W. A. Hewitt, H. E. 'Abraham, W. H. H Young and W. J. Crawshaw ; commit tee: Messrs Lowry, Hill, Hale, Clayton, E. Jackson; captain, Mr Hill: vice-captain, Mr Kirkman ; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. J. East.
A general discus don followed on the opening of the question of the annual subscription. It was suggested that, the club would become popular if there was a practice pitch close to town. The showground was too far away. There bshould be a pitch on Victoria Park. but the trouble was that there was no shed on the ground where materia! for practice chukl bo stored. It was decided that the subscription for the season' be 10s 6d.
• The following were proposed to; membership: Messrs Lowrie, Gluskie E. Jackson, ,). .J. East, C. Jackson Prebble, Donald, Wheeler, Reeve Bamford, Hill, Dunlop, Brown, Wood Bonar, B. Fearon, Hale, Thomas Harkncss, Abraham, Lawrence, S Sharp, J. Anderson.
• Mr Dunlop suggested that cricket should be Oncouraged in the schools.
1 Mr Hill said cricket had improved greatly in Auckland since the schools had taken it up. It was decided that the captain, vice-captain, and .Air Dunlop form tin selection committee.
In the course of a general discussion, Mr Dunlop voiced .the opinion that Victoria Park should be fixed up for the playing of all cricket matches.
