CLAIM FOR DAMAGES.

The Arbitration Court to-day granted Ellen Poppehvell £175 compensation and also payment of funeral expenses in connection with the death of her son, who was killed at Mina whilst in the service of the Railway Department. THE CIVIL SERVICE. Gisborne/ November 17. The discontent among the Post and Telegraph employees was discussed at a very largo meeting of the Gisbornc jbranch *of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association, and a resolution was passed affirming the action of the conference to withdraw the first of their resolutions placed before the Commissioners and deploring the fact that the Commissioners had refused to hear the conference, the delegates of which represented about eightyfive per cent, of the officers of the Post and Telegraph Department. The resolution concluded by placing on record "a strong protest against the too high handed action of the Commissioners in refusing to hear the delegation." MOTOR TRANSPORT COMPANY. Marton, November 17. The Marton Motor Bus and Transport Company, Ltd., with a capital of £SOOO, has been formed with provisional directors, Mr Frank Spencer being chairman, with Mi' Prank Tlathorlv as secretary. The promoters are sanguine of floating the company in a feu weeks.
