FIRES.
BIG 'SAWMILL .DESTROYED.

Early yesterday morning a lire occurred at the Omanawa Falls Mill, belonging to Gammans, Tauranga, Ltd. A email mill and the planing plant were completely destroyed. The damage is estimated at about £3OOO. Over a hundred men were employed at the mill, hut owing to the strike it was dosed down on the previous day. The men had not left, and.it was owing to their efforts and a good supply ol water that about a million feet of timber in stock was saved. Mr Gamman warmly praises the men for their willing assistance in lighting the outbreak. The mill and plant is one oi the most up-to-date in the Dominion. The. cause was probably a spark get- - I :ng into the shavings or from one of the locomotives. The insurance amounted to £ISOO in the Norwich.
