Hundreds of cottages at Pontypridd were unroofed. Huge trees were uprooted and the fire station was blown into tlie canal. Hie body of a workman was found at Abercynon with the face battered beyond recognition. The man had been blown from the highway into a field.

There were many miraculous, escapes. Fire terrified children, who took shelter under a table at Abercyuon, and a moment later the ceiling crashed down. The children were rescued from under several tons of debris uninjured.
