Markham, of the House of Commons, a member of the Commission, in a speech declared that the evidence conclusively shows that stonedusting of all roads and mines, if the proportion of stone is equal to coal dust, will prevent explosions of coal dust, such as undoubtedly caused the Welsh calamity. He advocated the compulsory use of electric safety lamps }n mines. It is estimated that a cost of a million would be required to instal them.
