DANCE AT MAKAHU.
[from our own correspondent.l
On Friday evening last all roads seemed to lead to Makaliu schoolhouse, this occasion being a dance given by Mesdames M. R. S. Brewer, W. Pratt, and J. Rentoul. Notwithstanding the inclement weather, worshippers of tire little goddess supposed to preside over these pleasant functions, turned up in force, distant Koki, Stratford, and even New Plymouth being represented. Descriptions of feminine attire being somewhat out of the line of this scribe, a full notice of the many pretty costumes would lie a difficult and dangerous undertaking for- one, who, while compelled to admire the “tout ensemhly,” hesitates to venture into a description of the many details contributing thereto, but mention must be made of the dainty pale green frock worn by Mrs Brewer, the handsome black satin in which Mrs Pratt appeared, and Mr Rontoul’s pretty brown costume
With a plentitudn of good partners and the throe chief essentials to a successful dance, viz., floor, music and supper excellently provided for, only the near approach of dawn brought •a most delightful gathering to a reluctant end, and a happy and somewhat weary throng dispersed through the mud. carrying pleasant recollections of hospitality extended, everyone voting the Makaliu dance as quite the “outside edge.”
