THE RUGBY CAME. OTAGO (11) >. SOUTHLAND (10). [Per Press Association.] .: Dunedin, September 27 A large crowd witnessed the annual match between Otago and Southland played here to-day. The contest was keen. At the end of the first spell the score was 10 to 8 in favor of the visitors In the second spell Otago had the visitors on the defensive for the greater part of the time, and Eckhold scored, the kick at goal failing. There was no further score, and Otago won by 11 points to 10.
NEW ZEALAND NATIVES (12) V. AUSTRALIA (9).
Auckland, September 27
The' final match of the Auckland Rugby season took place at Alexandra Park to-day in beautiful weather. The game was a benefit match between New Zealand, natives and Australia, for Piki, who was hurt during the tour of the Maoris in Australia. The natives won by 12 points to 9. Half time sounded with the score Australia 0, Natives 6. Tf anything, Australia had the best Of the ensuing play, but the game was somewhat mediocre. The chief feature after half time was the .cheerful play of Takarangi. When collared, no matter in what position hq found himself, he was always smil-
ing. Towards tin close, both sides were manifestly getting tired, but the tackling was goad, and many a likelylooking score was Drought back to naught. At last the natives opened 'out, and a dashing onslaught on Australia’s goal commenced, Rydlands scoring a brilliant try. Cunningham essayed to convert, but without result, and the final score was:—Natives 12, Australia 9. WELLINGTON (21) v. WAIRARAPA (3). Masterton, September 28.
