At the Court this morning a firstoffending drunkard, was convicted and discharged.

The sale is reported in Australia (states the Sydney Daily Telegraph) of Young Gentleman, a two-year-old ram, from Messrs Body Bros., Bundemar Stud, Trangie, to Messrs Henry Collins and Co., of Lucernedale, South Australia, for 1000 guineas.

At a meeting of the Wellington branch of the Teachers' Institute last night (states a Press Association message), a resolution was carried protesting emphatically against any attempt being made to insist that women teachers shall wear a special dress when giving physical' instruction, unless gymnasia are provided in schools. This resolution is to be forwarded to the Education Department.

A Wanganui Press Association message to-day states that reserved judgment in the case, J. A. Eedpath. Christcliurch, v. A. Hatrick and Co. (Wanganui), which was a claini for £SS3, for coal in connection with the wreck of the Carla two years ago, was delivered this morning by Sir Robert Stout. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £4OO and costs.

The winner of the butter test at the recent Royal Show, Adelaide, was the pure Holstein cow,- May, who won reserve champion honours in her section in the show ring. May is owned by Mr J. G. Burdet, jun., and she yielded in two milkings 711 b. of milk, which produced 2.671 b. of butter. Second honors also went to the same owners witli the pure Holstein, Rosy, who won champion honors in the show ring; her output was 76Jlb. of milk, which yielded 2101 b. butter.

Mr F. do G. English, the Associated Board's examiner, arrived in Hawera on Wednesday morning, and completed his work in the practical examinations on Thursday. The list of passes includes J. Cameron (Stratford Convent) 107 marks, in the advanced section; (local centre) G. Bredow (Stratford Convent) 118 marks, in the higher section (school) ; and E. Moon (Stratford Convent) 103 marks in the lower section (school). The two first mentioned headed the list in their respective grades. The two candidates presented fay the Sisters of Notre Dame des Mission were successful : Higher division, C. Whiteford and D. Onglev.

The president of the Auckland Exhibition is forwarding to the Premier a suggestion to request the Commonwealth Government to send its new flagship to visit Auckland during the Exhibition season. Tn the same letter (.states a Press Association mes-

sage) the president suggests that the New Zealand Government should send the new military aeroplane for display here at Exhibition time.
