NOT WANTED.
Dr. George E. Anson, M. 1)., of Wellington, writes the London correspondent of the "Lytetlton Times," supports the Hon. T. Mackenzie's nutation to would-be emigrants who object to serve under the National Defence scheme to stay away from Sew Zealand. In the course of a letter to the "Standard," Dr. Anson remarks:—"lt would be well for intending emigrants to realise that there is no place in Xew Zealand for any members of the white-feather bribrigade. We hold strongly and almost universally, that one of the first duties of a citizen is to take part in the defence of his country and its institutions; and we desire that those who are mean enough to accept the benefits of security, but make no personal effort to attain or to retain them, should not make New Zealand their home. We can do very wel! without them. AVe want none but brave men and good citizens • and the more of these the better for. us. Even the Working-class, which in England are said to oppose .national training, realise here in New Zealand, that it 19 useless to carry out social and industrial reforms unless we protect them b'y rendering:our country secure from conquest by a nation who might swoop away our plans for the social millennium into the maelstrom of cheap labor and a Jow standard of living."
