TO OKAHUKURA.

A NEW COACH SERVICE. " Last year tenders were called for a coach mail service from Whangamomona to Ohura, but owing to the fact that the road was in a bad state and livers were unbridged no tenders were forthcoming. At the present moment the necessary bridges have been completed, but the Government declines for some reason to call for tenders. This, and other matters, was the reason for the conference of local bodies held ajt Whangamomona on Wednesday; and the conference tended to clear up a number of points on which the parties interested had insufficient information. Similar conferences might with advantage be hold periodically.

One important fact was made public at the conference im question—the fact that Mr Moore, coach proprietor of Ohura, has decided to run a conch service from Whangamomona to Okabukura, on the Main Trunk railway. That Mr Moore has confidence, in the route is indicated by the fact that the service will be run independent of whether or not he receives a mail contract. The total distance from Whangamomona to Okabukura is 67 miles, and the coach journey will occupy two days. The first stage will be the Tangarakau gorge, twenty-two miles from Whangamomona, and it is intended to erect here a cottage for a married couple, stables, and a dining room for the convenience of passengers." The day's journey will be finished at Ohtira, eighteen miles further on, where good accommodation can be had, Okahufcura is 27 miles from Ohura, and the service will be run to connect with th© Main Trunk trains. The through coach fare will probably be fixed at

32s 6:1, and the service will be. started next month. It will be continued through the- summer months and winter also if the state of the roads and the traffic are found to warrant it.
