Captain R, J. Seddon has been posted for duty at Paeroa, on the expiration of his leave at the end of tins week. One of Nelson's oldest residents, Mr Robert Freeman, is at present seriously ill. He is 94 years of age, and well-known by all residents of Nelson.

Sir A. Douglas's daughter and sisters, Major Douglas (his brother), and Admiral Fanshawe' (his cousin) were the chief mourners at the funeral, states a London cable.

The death took placo at Waikouaiti, !' Otago, on Sunday, of Charles Richard | ("Dick") Nelmes, a famous old-time, cricketer, who was a familiar figure in the cricket field 50 years ago. In the early sixties he frequently rode to Dunedin from Waikouaiti by way of the mountain track and Flagstaff to take part in cricket matches. He play- 1 ed for Otago in the first match against the All-England Eleven in February, i 1864. ■ '|

The remains of the late Mr Henry William Ryan were interred in the Kopua/tama cemetery yesterday, the cortege being followed by a, large circle of relatives and friends. A service'was .held at ike Church of the Immaculate Conception, _ Stratford, where the coffin had been placed for the night. The Rev. Father Maples conducted the services at the church and graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs C. Bleasel, Bowler (sen.). M. Bowler (jun), E. Kelleher, M. Power and T. Lawson.
