Second Edition TROUBLESOME CONVICTS.
ESCAPES ANT) RE-CAPTURE. TPiE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] • Rotorua, August 26. Yesterday afternoon a prisoner named John Ramrnager, who was undergoing a sentence of five years for assault with intent, and escaped from the Waipa prison camp, was caught in the Hemo Gorge last evening by Constable Clark. He was brought before a Justice of the Peace at ftotorua this- morning, and sentenced to one year's additional imprisonment. Two prisoners at Kaingaroa camp, Charles Kingston (sentenced at Napier in March last to two years for criminal aßsault), and Herbert Wallace (sentenced at Wellington in January last to three years for robbery witn violence), broke the windows of the hut about twelve o'clock last night, and attempted to escape. They were heard, and caught just outside the hut.
