THE VANCOUVER RIOTS. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright! [United Press Association.] Vancouver, August 15. During the earlier stages of the Nanimo riot the miners compelled the police to take refuge on steamers, terrorised the town, and blew up a hut occupied by strike-breakers. FATAL RESULTS. (Received 8.-10 a.m.) New York, August 15. Serious rioting resulted from the attempt of the deputy sheriff to make arrests in connection with the strike at the Calumet copper mines. The strikers resisted, and the deputies fired on the mob. It is reported that a number of miners were killed and several deputies injured. THE BROKEN HILL STRIKE. London, August 15. The Broken Hill shop assistants have struck, despite yesterday’s injunction., Many shops have been closed.
