HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board was held this morning. Mr McAllister, chairman, telegraphed from Opunake apologising for absence, and Mr Smith was voted to the chair. There were also present: Messrs Rogers, Walter, Sole, E. Hine, Meredith and Chnstoffel. AN OFFENSIVE DRAIN. A. Needham, Douglas, wrote drawing attention to the state of a drain from a Icowshcd on the East Road at Douglas, and stated that it was a menace to settlers and the travelling public.—The Inspector was instructed to investigate.

REPORTS. ' Dr. Steven reported: During July 22 patients were admitted, 19 discharged and 1.6 remained on July 31st. There were no deaths. Ten.operation! were performed under anaesthetics. Miss O’Brien reported: There is nothing special to report this month. L think that the fowl yard requires a load of gravel, as it is getting ver\ soft. The kitchen is finished and ie most satisfactory.

Mr G, Officer reported: Work if well forward and the eaidy seeds are sown. Vegetables are now getting scarce—mostly late brocoli, with a few carrots, cabbages and leeks. The first-sown peas, turnips and broad beans are above the ground, but owing to the cold weather they do not make much headway. Mr A. Gray reported: Infection! diseases: Five cases of ehicken-pos have been notified from Whangamomona. Two of the patients have recovered, hnd the premises have been disinfected. The other three patients are convalescent but are isolated in their homes until they are free from infection, and the work of disinfection carried out. One suspected case of chicken-pox was removed to hospital from Stratford County and the premises were disinfected. One case of scarlet fever was notified in Stratford Borough. Th patient was removed to hospital and the premises were disinfected. Hisinfection was carried out at the premises in Stratford Borough, after scarlet fever patients who were nursed at home. Whangamomona school was disinfectec after chicken-pox cases. Acting under instructions I have made various investigations in connection with movements of Maoris, re smallpox outbreak.
