o I KILLED IN SLUICING CLAIM. [Per Pa ess Association.! Hokitika, July 2. Francis Carmine, aged about 55, owner of the Coronation sluicing claim, Goldsborough, was killed by a fall of earth in the face this morning. The body was immediately recovered, but death must have been instantaneous. Deceased, who was a very popular resident, leaves a large grown-up family. NEARLY SUFFOCATED. Wellington, July 2. James W. Dobson, butcher, Island Bay, and his wife were found unconscious in bed at 6.30 this morning, their condition being due to an escape of gas in the passage outside their room. They were removed to the hospital, and are still in a critical condition.
