Mr Cook'S ffiffibulty in carrying 0:1 business is generally recognised by the newspapers. Many candidates at the declaration of ; tho polls forefasted an early dissolution. Mr Quick, speaking at Bendigo, anticipated a double dissolution.
THE NEW 'PARLIAMENT

With the final figures of the Hume electorate to hand;, it is now possible to compile a complete list of the new Federal Parliament, subject to recounts by petitions. Xew South Wales will be represented in the House as follows :—-15' Liberals, 12 Laborites. Victoria—l2 Liberals, 9 Laborites. Queensland —3 Liberals, 7 Laborites. South Australia—3 Liberals, 4 Laborites.
West Australia—3 Liberals, 2 La bo rites.
Tasmania—2 Liberals, 3 Laborites. In the Senate—3 Liberals each for Wales and Tasmania, one for Victoria, and all the rest Laborites. South Australia is the only State to have completed the Senate count. Mr Symon (Independent) did not poll the required votes and forfeits his deposit of £25. Mr Joseph Cook anticipates having formed a complete Cabinet to-day.
