CONCERT AND DANCE AT NGAERE.
(From a Correspondent). The success which attended the concert and dance held on Friday night in aid of the hall, must have been gratifying to the promoters. Hardly has such a crowd been seen in the local hall, and the proceeds, amounting to all-but £lO, must constitute very nearly a record for a Ngaere house. Of this sum, the hall will benefit to the extent of over £9, which is a very good night’s performance in the minds of those interested in the financial side of things.
The programme for the concert, although possibly a trifle brief through the non-appearance of two or three artists who had promised their assistance was nevertheless all there for quality, as evidenced by the enthusiastic manner in which each item was received. If spontaneity of applause is indication of tlie appreciation of an audience of any particular items, then, Miss Rogers in her violin solos, Mrs Massey in her two songs,- and Masters Thomas and Langley'in “Robinson lOrusoe,” -scored' ifemiirkable well. ■' K*

The various Accompaniments were., played by Misses Knox, Coleman, Keppel,. Brown, and Mrs McNeely.- Mr.T. E. "Coleman occupied the chair. In connection with the concert, a word of thanks is due to Mr G. Hall for his generosity in mptoring a party of musicians cut from Stratford. After the concert, and before proceeding with the dance, supper was handed round. The dance then followed, and thanks to the energies of the M.C., Mr A. Scott, and the excellent music provided by the Ngaere Orchestra (Messrs Walsh Bros, and Parker), who supplied the greater part for it gratuitously,’ this part was no less enjoyable than the concert. Others who very kindly assisted with the music for the dance were Misses Keppel, Knox, Robson, Callaghan and Mr Perrott. Th proceedings terminated a little before 2 a.m.
With the object of raising still more funds, those who were responsible for the recent concert and dance, propose holding two more dances, the next to be on Friday, July 18th, and the following one during August.
