NEWTON KING’S WEEKLY REPORT.

On Friday, 13tb inst., at ray Kaponga yards, there was a small entiy, which was sold as follows:—Store cows (small or aged) £1 12s to £2, good stores and forward cows £3 7s to £4 19s, fat cows £7 2s to £7 3s, mixed weaners £1 6s 6d to £1 13s Gd, heifers in calf £4 10s, mare and foal £ll ss. At Rahotu, on Monday, 16th (an off day) there was a fair entry, the whole of which, with the exception of two lines of in ,calf heifers, being cleared at the following rates: —Weaner steers (roug|i).£i los to £1 16s, good £2, weaner heifers £1 12e 6d to £1 los, heavy Shorthorn bull £7, yearling Jersey bulls £1 los, small store or aged cows £1 2s 6d to £2, store cows £2 los to £3 os, forward cows £4 2s 6d to £o ss, springing heifers £4 17s 6d, nice line of 2J- year Holstein heifers all showing well forward and in fine condition, £8 2s 6d.

Ou the same day at ray Urenui yards, there was a small yarding, selling as follows :—Springing cow (guaranteed) £B, springing heifers £4 2s 6d to £6, tows and calves £4 T2s 6d to £5 2s 6d, fat cows £6 3s 6d to £6 los, bulls £2 10s, forward and small fat cows £o to £5 10s, store cows £2 17s 6d to £3 10s, lambs 8s Gd. v CLEARING SALES.

On Thursday, 12th inst., at Stratford, I had a very successful sale on account of ’ Messrs Wickham -Bros.,® There was a fine attendance of "thepublic, making good competition for all lines; offered as follows; —Butcher’s carts £9 to £l7, old £5 10s to £6 10s, long shafted gig £8 2s 6d, milk cart £5 2s 6d, beef cart £9 10s, chain harrows £4,. breeding sows £4 17s 6d. hoar £T 12s 6d, chestnut geldings, “Tom” £22 10s, “Espiner” £22, bay gelding “Zambuk” .£2O, black mare “Brownie” £l6 10s, bay gelding “Major” £2B, ■ bay gelding “Hobby” £36, and other farm and butcher’s cart horses from £9 to £l9 10s.’Dairy cows, only a grade herd, but having shown good factory returns, sold at from £7 10s to £l3 ss, late calvers or aged £5 to £6 5s (averaging £8 15s for the line), in calf heifers £4 10s.to £6 10s, specially choice £8 12s 6d and £8 15s.

On Friday, 13th, at my Stratford yards, I conducted a sale on accountof Mrs H. J. Richmond and W. Saywell, both well-known Midhirst Jersey bleeders. At Kaponga, on Thursday, 19th inst, for Mr 4- Hi Steiner’s sale, there was a very' large attendance of the public, buyers arriving in big numbers from all parts, including a big contingent from the south. Mr Steiner’s herd of 75 cows were without doubt a fine line, reflecting great credit on the vendor in his careful attention each year towards improving his herd and turning out the duffers. Bidding was very keen for all cows offered, the highest price obtained being £lB. A good number of fine Jerseys and Holsteins were amongst the herd, these selling at top prices. The average of £l2 4® per head for the herd of 75 c'pvvs constituting'a record for this time of the year for Taranaki, and indeed, will be a hard price to jieat when feed is more plentiful.
