KILLED AT A LEVEL CROSSING

A fatal accident occurred at a level crossing at Huntly on Saturday afternoon, John Hurst, a miner employed by the Taupiri Company, was in the act of crossing the line on foot when the south-bound Rotorua express came up and struck him and carried him some distance. Heath must have been instantaneous, the body being terribly mutilated. There was a clear and unobstructed view of the train for about half a mile, and how deceased came to walk in front of the train i,s inexplicable. Hurst, who was a recent arrival in the Dominion, had one son and one married daughter.
A DETERMINED SUICIDE
Christchurch, June 22
Yesterday morning a man named Albert Codings, aged 42, engaged ao a felhnonger at Islington, committed suicide by putting the barrel of a
gun in his mouth and shooting himself. At the inquest Mrs Codings said bo had been on a drinking bout lately, and when he was on drinking bouts
he threatened to commit suicide. The
coroner returned a verdict that deceased committed suicide whilst temporarily of unsound mind.
