SHOT THROUGH THE BREAST

Ashburton, June 19,
Albeit Butterick, aged 40, a farmer at Lynford, near Hinds, was found dead in a paddock on his farm this morning shot through the breast. He left home a short time before being found, m ith the object of shooting hares. THE SUICIDE IN GAOL. Auckland, June 19. At the inquest into the death of the prisoner, Austin Vincent Carroll,: who hanged himself in his cell, the evidence show eel that a letter from -the to his wife was found under | his pillow. In the letter the deceased lamented the fact that he ' was. afraid his wife and family \yould be short of money. He also said he could not bear th,o suspense (?f waiting | ip.,gaol for trial, although ( |ij6 was bejng treated with every consideration by ( tln warders. Mr Cutlen, returned the following verdict; “Deceased died last night, and lie hanged himself.’'
