AVIATION.
WORK IN THE COMMONWEALTH
Melbourne, Juno 7
Lieut. Eric Harrison, who has been appointed as one of the Commonwealth aviation instructors, and who has just come to Australia in charge of the Commonwealth aeroplanes, said that the machines were the best the Bristol Company could produce, and were known as 8.E.2. They were driven by 70 h.p. Renault engines, and cost between £IOOO and £ISOO each. They carry a pilot and passenger. Though nothing has yet been decided, it is regarded as probable that aviation grounds will be selected at a point about 20 miles from Melbourne, not far from the seashore, and as soon as Lieut. Harrison and Lieut. Petrie have conferred with military officers, the work of erecting an aerodrome- will be commenced.
