SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the District High School Committee was held last night, all the members being present, and Mr P. Skoglund in “the chair. THE TECHNICAL SCHOOL. Mr F. Tyrer, superintendent of the Technical School, reported:—“Since your Just meeting I have been able La open a technical class for men desirous of obtaining a certificate in engine driving. The class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and is being conducted by Mr A. Bowler, who holds a first-class marine engineer’s certificate. The class opened with nine students on the 3rd inst and an increase to this number is expected this evening. The class in dairy science is doing good work. Those attending it are all practical men interested on the scientific side of the subject. At a recent meeting of the class the instructor (Mr F. J. Morgan, M.Sc.'t gave a demonstration of the method of detecting watered milk by the freezing process. This demonstration will be repeated before the class with special apparatus ordered for the purpose. The continuation

classes are still running, one division of students preparing for the proficiency examination, another for that set for matriculation and solicitors’ general knowledge, and another for University work. Ar clasa in shorthand is also being carried on. Classes in dressmaking are being heid at Tariki, Douglas, and Stratford. —Received. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £8 6s 7d were passed for payment. BOARD SUBSIDY. The Education Board notified the payment into the hank to the credit of the committee £33 3» 7d, being subsidy on Committee’s contributions.
