Newton King's Weekly Report.
On Friday, 23rd inst., at my Waiwakabjo yards; there was a small entry, which sold as follows:—Werner heifers £2 2s 6d to £2 lis, poor sort* £1 Is 6d to £1 K)s, mixed weanei* £1 2s to £1 19s, empty heifers £■> 10s. bulls £4 3s to'£s 7s, aged or small -tore cows £ 7s 6d to £1 12s store cows £2 7s 6d to £2 18s, forward cows £3 15s to £ 445, fat cows £5 16s 6d, small 18-month steers £2 14s be! to £3 dairy cows £6 2s 6d to £i <s Od. 6-tooth and f.f.nl. Romney ewes in lamb 12s Gel, Lincolm f.m. ewes in lamb 10s 3d, culls 3s 9d, 4-tooth wethers 15s 6d, fat wethers 16s 6d, lambs 7s 3d. , . . At Douglas on Monday there was a fair entry with a good attendance of buyers. Practically the whole yarding was cleared at the hammer as follows.: —Mixed weaners 15s to £1 9s 6d, 18month steers £3 5s 6d, empty 20ijionth heifers £2 7s to £4 ss, store cows £2 4s to £3 3s, forward and fat cows £3 19s to £5 4s, dairy cows £5 10s. heifers calved £4 15s to £5 10s. 21-year steers small £1 os, bulls £2 15s to £4 lis, lambs 7s Id to 9s.
On Tuesday, 27th inst., at my Stratford yards, there was a fair entry, of about -100 head of good saleable cattle and several pens of sheep. There was a good attendance of the public, and there was. an improved demand for nearly all classes of cattle at prices, in most cases, in advance, of late market rates. Sheep m most'instances'did aot reach the reserves, although several pens -were 1 sold - privately; Wcan'ucolored heifers sojd at from £2 9s od to £2 12s 6d,. grades £1 13s to £1 17s. '3d, weaner steers up to £2, for a very •j;ood line, mixed weaners (poor clafcs) 15s to £1 6s, 20-month in calf heifers £3 16s to £4 13s, 18-month steer's £3 3s,for a rough, line, to £3 lis for a :>en of good Shorthorn cattle, aged store cows 19s to £1 13s, small store cows up* to £2 Bs, store cows £2 15s to £3 13s, forward cows £3 49s to £4 10s 6d, fat cows £5 13s to £6 10s, 3vear bullocks £5 16s, in Calf heifers Go ss, heifers calved £5, empty In* nont-h heifers poor £2 13s springing leifers £7 7s 6d, dairy coWsX*lose up r m demand) £B. to £8.17s 6d. f.m. nnpty ewes 7s 9d> fat wethers 175,,9d. On "Wednesday, at Stony River yards, there was only a fair entry with i good attendance. Competition throughout was good, practically all 'ines being sold at the hammer as follows:—Weaner heifers £1 12s 6d to £2 6s 6d, weaner steers £2 6s 6d, Jerseys lis, mixed weaners £1 14s 6d, aged cows £1 to £2 ss, store cows £3 7s 6d to £3 15s, forward and fat cows fM 19s to £5 Bs, dairy cows £6 os to £7 12s 6d.
Private Sales—Store cows £3 10s, forward cows £1 to £4 10s, dairy herds f :8 to £lO 10s, 18-month steers £3 10s, cat cows £6, forward and fat bullocks C 8 10s. 4 and 6-tooth ewes 16s 6d, vf.m. ewes 12s, 2-tooth wethers 13s Id, fat lambs 12s 6d, good store lambs (in demand) 0s 6d, 9s 3d, 9s, 8s 9d, ib 6d.
I also have to report having sold several fields of turnips at prices from £2 'os to £4 per acre, and also 7 fat ows and 5 fat bullocks (Mr .Win. 3irdling's show, stock) at £ls 7a 6ri >er head.
