EDUCATION BOARD.
0 At the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board held .yesterday afternoon, the Chairman reported that the following temporary appointments had been made :—Mangaeliu, solo teacher, Miss N. Bayly; Pungarehu, head teacher, Miss E. Clark; assistant same school, Miss H. Gibson; Ngaere school, with one or two others, was granted leave to reduce its mid-day recess to half an hour, and release its pupils at 3 p.m.
In regard to the, 1 heating of the Stratford school, the overseer (iV[r C. H. Moore) had l>een Instructed to visit Wellington, to examine the systeih of hot water heating in the schools there.
OVERSEER’S ’RtePORT^ : Mr 'Moore in his fe'porfc stated 1 that he had s visited Wellington as instructed, and as the result'of'his obselviG tions had come'to the conclusion there was practically only one radiator hotwater system used in Wellington besides the ordinary methods. The pipe system alone was not used in any large buildings. Ho wished it to be clearly ,understood.that he was not recommending, the, radiator.-: sysr tom, but. if'i the Boat’d i decided on installing, it, be was prepared to; carry out the work in a manner that hvould give satisfactory results. The matter was left to the Chairman to deal with. ■>■■■■ MISCELLANEOUS. I was decided on the motion of Mr Robert Masters, seconded'by Mr Kennedy, that the' managers of all private schools be notified that their schools should be examined by the Board’s inspectors, and that their attention be called to clause 151 of the Education Act, 1908, which States that certificates of exemption will not he granted to pupils attending schools hot subject to inspection. In reference to a petition received from certain householders in the Cardiff school district urging that a separate school district be made for the Waingongoro school, it was decided to convene a meeting of householders of the last-mentioned district, in the school-house, at 7.30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 18, for the purpose of electing a committee and defining boundaries. Mr Masters will represent the Board at this meeting. '■
The matter referred to the Board by the Stratford School Committee re window rods and fire grate in the school was left in. the hands of the overseer. ' ’ v ‘s>
In connection with the Technical work, Mr R. H. Rivoll, caretaker ,of the Stratford School, was granted an increase of £5 per annum in salary.
