DOMINION NEWS.

THE NON-UNION question. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, May 22. An interesting judgment was delivered in the Magistrate’s Coitrt today, in a case brought by the New Zealand Federated Boot Traders’ Association against Hannah and Company. The Association claimed £lO penalty in two cases, where it was alleged the defendants employed nonunionists, when capable unionists were available. It was shown in evidence that both men joined the Union almost immediately. The Magistrate quoted a judgment of the Arbitration Court in which it was held that the fact of the men’s names being on the Union book did not prove that these men were out of work. In order to prove their case, the men should have been called to give evidence. Judgment would be for defendants, with costs against the Union.
