OLD OFFENDERS

[Per Press Association.] Wellington, May 10,

Some time during last night, Patrick Donovan, alias Thomas Donovan, and John Lewis escaped from the Terraco Gaol, and are still at largo. Donovan was serving a sentence of three years for assault and robbery in Wellington, and Lewis, who also escaped from the same gaol last year, was twice declared an habitual criminal.

REMANDED ON MURDER CHARGE Christchurch, May 10.

John Hitchcock, .who assaulted his sister with a razor at Akaroa recently, and subsequently attempted to commit suicide, was charged with attempted murder to-day and remanded, counsel'saying that application would be mado to have Hitchcock committed rto a mental hospital.
