A BETTING SWINDLE

The scheme for systematic betting on football matches has failed. So alluring were the odds in certain instances that backers rushed them, leaving alone prices which the promoter 'designedly fixed to keep him ahead. The successful tipsters were informed that the bank was broke. One won £4O, and several £2O, but none received even their stake back.
THE TRAM TICKET FRAUD
Sydney, May 9
Two tram conductors, who pleaded guilty to fraudulency in printing tram tickets, were sentenced to two years’ hard labor.
