THE TRADE COMMISSION. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] Brisbane, April 2. The Empire. Trade Commissioners have arrived and commenced taking evidence. Speaking at the civic reception, Sir Edgar \ incent declared that the present cable rates were unduly high,. and calculated to hamper in an unw.ise manner, free communication between the inhabitants ot the Empire. A quantity of. evidence was taken and questions answered on immigration and afforestation. INCREASE IN FEDERAL REVENUE.
• Sydney, April 2. The Federal .reyenue for .nine months shows an increase of £756,527, compared to tho last corresponding period. CHAMPION DUCK-LAYERS. Tho Timber Workers’ Federal Con ferenco adopted a number of recommendations for tho alteration of the tariff. There is a general tendency, to ask for increased duties on small sizes and dressed.-timber generally made of New Zealand white pine. For butter boxes they recommended that, duty remain at Is 6d per hundred feet, while the duties on other New Zealand pine should be increased to 2s 6d.
