MISCONDUCT OF A SOLICITOR. (Per Press Association.) , , .Wellington, April 1. The Court of Appeal sat this afternoon to hear an application by the Auckland District Law Society to make absolute a rule nisi striking Henry Edward Elliott, of Opotiki, off the rolls. The grounds of the application were thdt Elliott had misappropriated, trust funds and had* also ,committed perjury in a judicial proceeding. Mr Vernon Reed, K.C., and Mi - hjndean appeared for the society, and Mr Blair represented Elliott., The Court .ordered that Elliott be struck qff the rolls. The majority of the Court were ,of the opinion that Elliott should be allowed to apply for readmission after three years. Costs, 15 guineas, were allowed to the Auckland District Law Society. BREACH OF GAMBLING ACT. Feilding, April |2.

A peculiar case was decided by Mr J. W. Poynton, S.M., at the Court this morning/ Tho two secretaries of tho recent garden fete, which was held in aid of funds for the Beautifying Society, were .proceeded against for a breach of the Gaming Act, in instituting a free trip to Rotorua disposed of by a drawing of tickets of admisison to the fete.

Tho defendants pleaded guilty, and it was pointed out by the defendants’ solicitor that the men made no personal gain. The same thing was practised in other places. Tne Magistrate said ho quite accepted taestatement that there was no personal gain, and that tho men acted quite innocently, but it was a breach of the Act, and the police were right in bringing a case. A fine of 10s, with 7s costs, was inflicted in each case. SERIES OF WANGANUI ROBBERIES. Wanganui, April 2. The sequel to a number of robberies in tlje town and suburbs was provided at the Police Court this morning, when four youths, aged about 19, pleaded guilty to nine different charges of theft. Each of the defendants was fined and costs. Nearly everything in the place where they batched had been stolen, including the mattresses and rugs on tho bed.
