NEW ZEALAND’S WORK IN IMPERIAL DEFENCE.

The Empire Parliamentary Association entertained the Hon. J. Allen, the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie, many members of the House of Commons and their wives, at luncheon. Among those present were Mr L. Harcourt (Secretary of State for the Colonies), Sir Joseph Ward, Sir W. Buchanan, Mr Holman (New South Wales At-torney-General), and Viscount Knutsford (ex-Secretary of State for the Colonies).

Colonel the Rt. Hon. Mr Seely (secretary of State for War) presided, and emphasised New Zealand s pioneer work in connection with Imperial defence.

Mr Alien said New Zealand would not long be satisfied with representation merely of an advisory nature. It would be necessary for the Dominions to participate in manning the ships and training the men for higher ratings. Mr Austin Chamberlain welcomed Mr Mackenzie, and the High Commissioner replied.
