ARREST OF AIRS PANKHURST. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Unixed Press Association.) (Received 8.5 a.m.) London, February 24. Mrs Pankhurst has been arrested. DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £6OOO. THE HUNGER STRIKE UPHELD. (Received 9.45 a.m.) London, February 24. The damage caused by the suffragettes last week is estimated at £OOOO. Annie Kenny, speaking at Bow Street, dared the authorities to allow women to die in prison. Such event would mao militants by hundreds. NOT ALL THEIR OWN WAY. Airs Despard was forced to abandon a meeting at Thornton Heath. Other suffragettes were refused a hearing at Wimbledon. A party bearing sandwich boards at Preston, were pelted with eggs and refuse, and obliged to shelter in shops. FURTHER OUTRAGES. Seats on Hampstead Heath, stencilled with green'paint with the words “Vote for women,” damaged visitors’ dresses. Signal wires have been cut on the Great Western Railway at Newport. PUBLIC OPINION. —~ t The Daily Citzen says: “Public temper is rising against the Pankhurst’s militancy, and present methods are all doing more injury to the cause than a score of anti-suffrage leagues.” CHARGE AGAINST AIRS PANKHURST. Mrs Pankhurst is being charged under the Alalicious Damage to Property Act with incitement in connection with the Walton-ou-Hill outrage* and has been transferred to Epsom. THE EFFECTIVE HUNGER STRIKE (Received 11.5 a.m.) London, February 24. Lilian Lenton has bee released in a state of collapse after a period of hunger strike.
