FRENCHMEN’S FREE FIGHT. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) Paris, February 21. The electors interrupted the Town Council meeting at Piedocroce. The Mayor shot with a revolver and wounded one, whereupon a free light ensued with daggers. The Mayor and two councillors were mortally wounded, and seven others seriously. AMERICAN STATION. Parliament debated for two . days die case of R. Miler, a contractor, who refused to answer how he spent large sums to secure thes Government contracts. He was ordered to be imprisoned within the precincts of the House. After two days he was still contramacious, and was ordered to the common gaol to remain at the Parliament’s pleasure. THE AUSTRALIA’S TRIAL. The Australia has reached Devon-j port, and will prepare for her steam trial. OIL FINANCE. The receivers of the Commonwealth Oil Corporation failed to raise half a million from outside sources, and it will be necessary to issue debentures to subscribe the amount. A meeting on the 3rd March will consider the scheme.
