FIRE.

OUTBREAK AT SWANSEA ROAD. A small fire occurred last evening at eight o’clock, when news was received in town that a five-roomed dwelling in Swan sea road, occupied by Mr James East and family was in flames. The brigade got to the spot quickly, but by that time the fire had been almost extinguished by the prompt action of Mr East and Passers-by. Mr E. Sanson in particular deserves much praise for the plucky manner in which he applied a garden hose to the flames. The first signs of fire were noticed by Mrs East, Mr East being at a neighbour’s house, and when the hose was obtained the rear portion of the building was in flames. The damage done was nob very extensive, only one room being badly charred. The furniture was saved, though MiEast lost a few personal effects, which are, we understand, partly covered by insurance.
