FIRES.

A GARAGE DESTROYED. (Per Press Association.) January 27. A fire broke out at 3.40 this morning in a garage owned by J. E. Ski at s The owner was away from town at the time, and nobody had been in the building since Saturday. The whole building was gutted, and five cars were badly damaged. Two were owned by Skeates, and the remaining three belonged to private owners, W. J. Lovelock, Mel 1 sop and Elliott, and F. C. Chaytor (Woodville). About £750 worth of accessories were completely destroyed. Collinson and Sons’s ironmongery store was slightly damaged. The insurances are unavailable. FIRE AT OPOTIKI. Auckland, January 27. A fire which occurred at Opotiki on Sunday destroyed a block of buildings in Church Street, owned by C. Aithur, and occupied by Thorburn (restaurant and confectioner) and E, Parkinson \(jeweller). The- insurance ~on the building was £650 in the National Insurance Co. Thorburn s stock mas a total loss. Most of Parkinson’s stock was saved.
