I Adelaide, January ,20. Thomas Betts, president of the Port Pij-io branch of the Masons and Bricklayers’ Union, was found shot near the ■ Broken Hill Proprietary works. He states that lie went for a walk prior to retiring for the night, and a stranger rushed him and fired twice. Betts’ condition is critical.

Messrs Heir a and Rennell secured sixteen splendid fish in the Mangawliero stream yesterday. The trout were in fine condition, and averaged b, one or two of them being four pounders. The stream, by the way, is about twenty-four miles from here, and in the Eltham district.
