MAIN ROADS MAINTENANCE.

A select committee of the House of Commons, which has been inquiring into the question of the maintenance of main roads, has submitted its report.
The committee is of the opinion that the time has arrived when an authority should be constituted to control the main roads of thecountry, and that the cost of road maintenance should be defrayed by special taxes, and not be a charge on local rate®.
