BARQUE IN DISTRESS.
Sydney, January 7. The Chilian barque Belfast, coal laden, from Newcastle, on December 3, to Calao, was towed .n crippled. When 800 miles from Newcastle on December 15 she was struck by lightning, and her fore-top-gallant and main royal splintered. Her other e asts were also damaged. She has returned for repairs. It is thought here that the Belfast ,vas the dismasted vessel that the Thora reported. After being struck by lightning the Belfast’s compass and chronometers were useless for twelve hours. She was at the mercy rf a howling gale and her posit 1 , m was perilous. The crew for a time were in a state of panic.
