At Saturday’s Swiramifig Carnival there was a large attendance. The weather was fine. The results of the principal items wore: 100yds handicap: McLean, 12sec, 1; Solomons, scr, 2; Robinson, 14 sec, 3. Time, 69sec. Solomons won the second heat in this event in 48 2-osec, the fastest time ever recorded in Wellington. 200 yd. relay race: Lyall Bay, 23sec, 1 ; Swifts, 19setr, 2; Wellington, 13scc, 3. Manly (scr) came in fourth.
LAWN TENNIS,
Auckland, December 22. The British Isles Tennis Team met the pick of New Zealand on Saturday before abouf a thousand people. The weather was good. The .Englishmen won all the matches. The best game was between P. C. Dixon, the ,English captain, and J. C. (Hinder, the latter playing well up to form, and serving beautifully. Dixon was more consistent and won 7—5, o—3.0 —3. F. G. Lowe boat J. C. Peacockc, o—4, G—2. J. C. Parke beat R. N. K. Swanston, o—o, o—3. Beamish beat F. M. B. Fisher, 6—4, o—3. Dixon and Parke beat Fisher and (Hinder, G 1, G—o. Parke and Beamish beat Peacockc and Swanston, 7—5, 10—5. The visitors were too strong for the New Zealanders, who, with the exception of Ollivier, never seemed to trouble them seriously.

South Australia in their first innings scored 5G9 (Steele not out 123, Dundell 36). Now South Wales lost four wickets for 177 (Trumpor 0, jE. Waddy 35, Collins 79, Minnett 35). Wellington, December 21. The.cricket, match-N.S.W. teachers versus Wellington was drawn. The visitors made 153 and 258 for six wickets. Wellington’s first innings totalled 116. The following team has been selected to represent Auckland against Wellington for the Plunket Shield: — Hemus (captain), Cummings, Rountree, JBronk-Smith, Taylor (Eden), Dacro and Sole (North Shore), (Hill and Sommorvill (Parnell), E. Horepool (Grafton), N,. Sneddon (Ponsqhby). The twelfth man is Kavanagh (Ponsonby).
