MASQUERADING TRAGEDY.
INQUEST ON THE VICTIMS
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, November 6. An inquest was held this afternoon on the bodies of .Annie Read, who has been masquerading as ‘‘Thomas Parker,” and her child, both of whom died yesterday. Dr. Gordon MacDonald said there was i a slight mark of constriction round the neck of the child, such as might be caused by the umbilical cord. He came to the conclusion that -the child had been born alive and had died from neglect. The Coroner returned g verdict to this effect.
At the inquest on the body of the mother, Dr. Fleming stated that she was suffering from peurperal eclampsia. Deceased would probably not have survived her confinement no matter what treatment she received, as she had been suffering from Bright’s d'seaste, which left a tendency to puerperal eclampsia at child birth. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned.
