ALTERATIONS IN THE RULES

Auckland, November 7. The Rugby Union Jias approved of the suggestion that the Eng.ish Rugby Union be asked to authorise amendments to the rules from time to time’ necessary in the interests of the game is New Zealand, with a provision disapproving alterations ip the rules with regard to professionalism. The pro-
posed amendment of rule 18 was regarded with some suspicion, as preparing the way for cutting the painter, but was approved when safeguarded by. the qualification in regard to professionalism.
The Auckland Cricket Association, which recently purchased Eden Park, have agreed to lease it to the Rugby Union for twenty-one years, Eden Park is centrally situated,.,and will probably give the Rugby game fresh impetus.
